Beginner Guide to Online Day Trading - Successfully Timing the Stock Market

In a past article (the entire article can be found on author's blog site, found in resource box at bottom of page) we discussed ways in which a day trader or swing trader can help themselves by timing the stock market. There are not many resources out there that can truly help a day trader find an edge on the stock market but we believe our experiences have proven themselves out. These methods are tried and true and you will see the same. As a beginner guide to online day trading, we have tried to make it as simple as possible to understand. We realize that day trading equities can be a scary thing when you first start out so we advise that you paper trade with these methods before actually going out and spending your money in the stock market. Day trading stock online can be intimidating so we advise taking your time until you feel comfortable with day trading.

We now turn or attention to how to time the stock market:

What stock sectors are hot and which ones are not?

So if we know we are in a bull market we jump into picking the big
money stocks right? Wrong! We must carefully break down the tape further.
We need to know what sectors are getting the money flow into them and
which ones are not. This is not very hard to do and does not take that much
time. Yahoo finance has an excellent section dedicated to investing and once
you click on this section you will find an area dedicated to "Industries." You
can get a nice read on what sectors are moving in an upward direction. Also,
CNBC, MSNBC, as well as other financial websites perform similar
functions. So now you know what direction the overall market is moving
and you have your eyes on the hottest sector. Now, the next move is to hone
in on individual stocks.

Look for trending individual stocks

As mentioned previously we are looking for stocks that first are trading
above (long) or below (short) the 200 day moving average. This is only step
one in the attempt to find the hottest stocks.

There will be much more on this topic to include advanced trading strategies and much more.
